Research interests: Diabetic neuropathy. Relationship between autonomic neuropathy and nephropathy; circadian
rhythm of blood pressure and heart rate; assessment of autonomic cardiovascular dysfunction and sudomotor function;
validation of COMPASS 31; epidemiology, and diagnosis of painful diabetic neuropathy with validation of DN4; impact
of neuropathic pain on depression and on the 24h blood pressure profile; obstructive sleep apnoea; genetics of diabetic
neuropathy.
Principal Investigator in 20 University funded Research Projects and International Clinical Trials.
Awards: Winner of the Valsalva Lecture Award of the Italian Society for Neurovegetative Research (2009). Award of the title of Honorary Professor of State Institution “V. Danilevsky Institute for Endocrine Pathology Problems of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine” (2019).

Peter Novak, MD, PhD is the Director of the Autonomic Laboratory at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is a board-certified neurologist and a board-certified autonomic specialist. He is a member of American Academy of Neurology, American Autonomic Society and a member of Autonomic Board of United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS). He graduated from medical school in Bratislava, Slovakia and completed his neurology residency at the Ohio State University. He also completed postdoctoral studies focusing on cardiovascular and autonomic research at Charles University (Prague), University of Montreal, McGill University (Montreal) and Mayo Clinic. He has special interests in autoimmune, small fiber and autonomic neuropathies, autoimmune, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and multiple system atrophy. He has written over 70 papers and presented at numerous conferences.
